What can we do to improve civic engagement in Greenburgh?
We are a town of 90k people, yet at Town Board meetings, often there is only a scattering of 2-5 people in attendance. Why is that? Well I think it's because our leadership need to do better.
Yesterday's Town Board Work Session started over an hour late. Citizens who were there to listen were left waiting for over an hour with no information as to when the meeting would actually start. The Work Session on 5/2 started over 30 minutes late. These are not isolated occurrences.
Today's Town Board Meeting has 8 separate Public Hearings scheduled, for topics such as special business permits, water rate increases, and Fire Protection District Contracts. When I checked this morning, not a single one of those Public Hearings had the underlying documents available to the public. How is the public supposed to review and provide feedback and input if they don't have access to the underlying materials?
If we want people to participate in our government, volunteering their time and expertise, we have to show them the respect they deserve. Right now we aren't doing that. This is a pattern in Greenburgh that has unfortunately gotten worse over time. It is time for change in Greenburgh. I want to be the voice of that change and I'm asking for your vote June 25th. Tell your friends and neighbors!!

Dear Friends
Thank you to everyone who has taken a lawn sign for their business or residence. It is exciting seeing them as I drive around town! If you have not already received one and would like to show your support, please reply to this email and let me know. I would be happy to drop one off.
I wanted to share the details for some upcoming events that will highlight the campaign. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors.
June 2nd 4:00pm-6:00pm Democratic Debate- The Rivertown's Democratic Committee has organized a debate for June 2nd at Mercy College (details to come). This is a great night to come out and learn more about my campaign and why I am the best candidate for the position. A crowd of supporters would be fantastic. Please come and encourage your friends and neighbors to attend.
June 11th 7:30pm-9:30pm "Meet the Candidates Night"- Organized and sponsored by Hartsdale Neighbors Association this is another opportunity to come out and meet the candidates. While the first event will be a debate, this event will be more of a discussion and Q&A with each candidate.
If anyone would like copies of my Palm Cards, Business Cards, or Lawn Signs to distribute to your neighbors, civic associations or other groups, please let me know and I would be happy to drop them off. Check out my website www.ericzinger.com where you can also contribute directly to my campaign to help cover the cost of these items.
Thank you all for your support

Dear Friends,
I believe it is important that candidates be specific when they talk about policy and the issues. Anyone can speak about generalities but as they say "the devil is in the details". Thats why I'm continuing to share specific policy ideas that I would like to see implemented.
I already shared with you my plans for implementing Term Limits for elected Greenburgh officials. Now let me share with you my next policy item which calls for hiring a Business Development officer. Growing our tax base is the key to reducing the burden on property owners and providing the revenue that we need for key investments in infrastructure and services.
This role will focus will be attracting business to Greenburgh, helping new and existing businesses navigate our regulatory landscape, and applying for grants to help bring jobs and investment into our Town.
Greenburgh is a difficult place to do business, with special permits and regulation required for almost every type of activity. For example there are 23 pages of regulations governing the use of signs alone.. We need someone who can help recruit business to Greenburgh and help them navigate this difficult landscape in a competitive environment.

Dear Friends,
Thank you as well to those of you who donated to the campaign. With your support, lawn signs have been purchased and are being shipped as we speak. If you would be interested in having a sign at your house and haven’t already told me, please let me know.
I wanted to share details for some upcoming public events. Please tell your friends and neighbors. In addition, there are two debates that are being scheduled. I will share more details on those once available.
East Rumbrook Park- Saturday 5/4 as part of the Friends of East Rumbrook Dog Park I will be at East Rumbrook Park from 9:00am-11:00am. We are holding our annual Spring Park Clean up. Come by to say hello.
Edgemont Community Council- Monday 5/6 I will be at the Edgemont Community Council meeting at Edgemont High School at 8:00pm. I will be talking about my campaign as well as taking questions. ECC meetings are always open to the public.
Irvington Democrat Committe- Tuesday 5/7 at 7:30pm the Irvington Democrat Committee will be hosting candidates for the upcoming 6/25 primary election. The meeting will be at 19 Jaffray Park in Irvington. I will be giving a short speech and taking questions from the audience.
I am also excited to announce that over the next two weeks, I will be announcing several signature campaign policies. The first of those is regarding my call for term limits for Greenburgh elected officials. A lack of term limits gives rise to an insular culture that makes individual lawmakers overly reluctant to advance new ideas, challenge entrenched special interests, or tackle tough issues. I am calling for 12 year term limits for all Greenburgh elected officials. Look for additional specific policy points such as these over the next few weeks.
Any questions please email me at eric@ericzinger.com.

Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I am running for Greenburgh Town Council this year in the 6/25 Democratic Party Primary. I am running because I believe we need a fresh, independent perspective in our local government. I know first hand the problems that Greenburgh residents face, and I believe we can do better.
I am asking for your support in that endeavor and that help can come in many different ways:
Spread the word to your friends and neighbors about my campaign and remind them to vote in the election. Turnout is likely to be low and every vote will count!
Let me know if you would be willing to help with grassroot campaign efforts (phone calls, handing out flyers). Lawn signs will be available soon. Please contact me if you'd like one and I will drop it off.
Direct donations to my committee- Friends of Eric Zinger- can be made to help pay for marketing materials, advertisements and other items to get the word out. If you would be willing to donate, you can do so online here, or you can mail a check to 142 N. Washington Avenue Hartsdale NY 10530 made out to "Friends of Eric Zinger".
A hearty thank you in advance. If you have any questions or local issues you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at Eric@ericzinger.com or at 1-301-655-4170. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Eric Zinger

The Primary election is June 25th and will feature contested races for Town Council and Town Clerk. Only registered Democrat Voters can vote in the primary but if you are not registered with a party, it is not too late to register. The deadline is May 31st. If you know people who are not registered with a party encourage them to register as Democrats so that they can vote June 25th!
If you are registered with another party(WFP or Rep as example) it is too late to change for this years primary.
For a full list of dates and deadlines, check out the NYS Board of Elections website here.

As of 1:00pm today there has been no general challenge to my petition to be on the ballot for the Democratic Party primary election on 6/25. While it is still possible that a challenge could be received via mail (if postmarked by 4/8), at this point it is pretty safe to say that my petition was not challenged and I will be on the ballot.
This is great news! Thank you to everyone who helped get me to this point.
I will now be transitioning into "campaign mode." Here's what that means:
First, I will begin to share more details about my goals while in office and post about my opinions regarding many of the ongoing issues occurring in Greenburgh. Please make sure to "like" my FB page to stay up to date. You can also check out www.ericzinger.com where I will be regularly adding new content. If you have a specific issue or question that you would like to discuss, please email me at eric@ericzinger.com.
Second, I will be trying to reach out to as many people as possible to introduce myself and ask for their support. If you know of a civic association or group that would be interested in hearing from candidates, please let me know. Again, eric@ericzinger.com.
Thank you everyone and I look forward to the campaign.

As many of you may have heard, in an extremely tragic turn of events, Town Councilman Kevin Morgan passed away on Thursday from a short battle with cancer. Kevin was a retired Greenburgh Police Officer and Town Councilman for many years. As a long time Greenburgh resident, he served his community in innumerable ways. His passing is a tremendous loss for Greenburgh and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Information on his funeral and wake arrangements can be found on the Town Website here.

Thank you to everyone who signed my petition and big thank you to everyone who collected signatures on my behalf. Today my petition to be on the ballot for the Democrat Primary election on 6/25 was submitted to the Board of Elections. Our petition had almost 1700 signatures, far and above the minimum required amount of 750. That should put us safe from any challenge that we are fully expecting. We have been explicitly told that the opposition plans to challenge are petition to prevent myself and Judith Beville from getting on the ballot. They have no justification for this of any kind, but that does not mean we do not expect a full legal challenge. This is their playbook and they have run it before, many times. The last day they have to file a general challenge to our signatures is Monday 4/8 and I will update this page if that occurs.
Again thank you to all who either signed or collected signatures. I am looking forward to shifting into campaign mode now that this large hurdle has been crossed.

I am currently collecting signatures to get on the ballot for the Democratic Primary. If you are a registered democrat, I would love to get your signature. Please email at eric@ericzinger.com and we can set up a good time to meet. If you are willing to collect signatures from your neighbors, please let me know. I would be so grateful for anyone willing to collect on my behalf.

Dear Greenburgh,
My name is Eric Zinger and I am asking for your vote for Greenburgh Town Council at the June 25th Democratic Primary.
For those of you who do not know me, let me introduce myself. I was born in East Meadow (Long Island) and attended the University of Maryland where I graduated with a degree in Finance. I then returned to New York, spending a few years in Manhattan, before moving to North Washington Avenue in Hartsdale in 2013 with my wife Megan to purchase a home and start our family. Our son Zachary is 18 months old. You’ll see us walking our corgi Pete around the neighborhood. I work in Finance in Hedge Fund Operations and I hold the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
I have been an active member in my community since we moved to Hartsdale. Some of you may know me in my role as President of the Hartsdale Neighbors Association (HNA) where I have successfully pushed to close down illegal massage parlors in Hartsdale, organized the movement to promote the Four Corners redevelopment plan now before the Planning Board, helped coordinate Hartsdale Day, and taken part in many other causes aimed at improving Hartsdale and our town. Some of you may have seen me at Greenburgh Town Board meetings or posting on social media sites to discuss town issues. I also serve on the Greenburgh Parks and Recreation Committee and I am the Secretary of the Friends of the East Rumbrook Dog Park. I work closely with the administration of the Greenburgh Central School District including serving on the district’s Construction Advisory Committee. As these examples show, I am deeply committed to our community and enjoy organizing, volunteering, and giving back to make Greenburgh a better place to live.
I am asking for your vote on June 25th because I believe that Greenburgh needs change. As we have seen in the past year of the Blue Wave, a new generation of political leadership is emerging in the Democratic Party and I want to bring that fresh energy to our Town. I want to work hard for all Greenburgh residents, both unincorporated and villagers, with focus on the following:
1. Controlling property tax growth in the new, uncharted era of the SALT deduction cap;
2. Growing the active Democratic voter base by recruiting new and young residents to express their ideas on town issues and join town committees;
3. Encouraging village, town, county and state government to find ways to work together to bring tax savings to residents;
4. Starting a town-wide dialog on term limits for elected officials and insisting on democratic principles and transparency in town governance,
5. Bringing an independent and creative voice to Town issues.
I believe that civic engagement has never been more important than it is now. I would love to talk with anyone who is interested in my ideas or has other issues to discuss prior to the convention. The best way to reach me is via email at eric@ericzinger.com. Thank you in advance and I look forward to the upcoming primary and campaign.
Sincerely,
Eric Zinger
